November 9 Buoyed By The Grinder

Posted July 19, 2010
Day 8 of the World Series of Poker Main Event is in the books, and the starting field of 7,319 players has been whittled down to the November 9. These final 9 players are called the November 9 because they will reconvene in November to finish the World Series of Poker. The chipleader going into the November 9 will be Jonathan Duhamel with almost 66 million in chips. The most famous of the WSOP November 9 is Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi. A full chip count of the final 9 is listed below.
1 Jonathan Duhamel 65,975,000
2 John Dolan 46,250,000
3 Joseph Cheong 23,525,000
4 John Racener 19,050,000
5 Matthew Jarvis 16,700,000
6 Filippo Candio 16,400,000
7 Michael Mizrachi 14,450,000
8 Soi Nguyen 9,650,000
9 Jason Senti 7,625,000
As mentioned above Michael Mizrachi is without a doubt the featured player at WSOP final table. He has been on quite a tear at the 2010 World Series. Frank Kassela is the official 2010 WSOP Player of the Year, but this year will be remembered as the year of the The Grinder. I’m not sure of how the points are calculated, but it’s my view that the Grinder is the Player of the Year. Kassela undoubtedly had a great series, winning 2 bracelets and a few other deep runs, but Mizrachi won the prestigious $50,000 buy in tournament and has now final tabled the Main Event. It’s a feat that we are unlikely to see again in our lifetimes. A full list of the Grinder’s cashes are below.
WSOP Main Event Final Table for ?????
Won the $50,000 Players Championship for $1,559,046
6th place $10,000 Seven Stud Championship for $68,949
8th place $10,000 Limit Holdem Championship for $49,732
26th in the $2,500 mixed event $6,324
A win in the $50k mixed event, 3 final tables in $10k buyins against the best competition in the world? That’s a pretty sick feat.
Jonathan Duhamel is no slouch at all, and boasts 2 other cashes at this years WSOP. He also made the money in the $10,000 buy in Caribbean Adbenture Tournament. With his stack he will certainly be a force to be reckoned with at the final table.
John Dolan also has 2 other cashes in this years WSOP, and has a total of $216,556 in live tournament cashes coming into the Main Event. This will be the largest cash for Dolan, as he almost guaranteed to pocket over a million at the final table.
Joseph Cheong is my personal favorite to win this tournament. He only has a little more than a third of the chips of the chip leader, but has shown the ability to make things happen. He shifted gears and played extremely aggressively with 10 players left, when it seemed as if everyone else crawled under a rock trying to make sure they made the November 9. If he can continue to shift gears I like his chances.
John Racener has won over a million before you even count his winnings in the Main Event, which is second to only Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi. With that being said I don’t like how the last few hours of the tournament played out for him. He was getting 3bet alot at this table, and it seems as though some players have figured out his game. It’s a long time until November, so he still has plenty of time to adjust.
Matthew Jarvis has tournament cashes dating back to 2007, but has only $61,245 in live tournament cashes. Can a guy used to lower buy in tournaments handle the pressure and hang with players like The Grinder? Only time will tell.
Filippo Candio brings some international flair to the final table. He hails from Italy, and has about $33,420 in live tournament winnings, all in the last year. Does this newcomer have what it takes to win the Main Event?
Soi Nguyen has been around the block, as he has tournament cashes dating back to 1991. He has been playing poker almost as long as many of the other players have been alive, though he only has $156,466 in live tourney winnings. It appears that he has turned the corner at the perfect time, as this has clearly been his breakthrough event.
Jason Senti is the shortstack of the table, but you can bet he isn’t going to just be happy to be there come November. All of the players are hungry for a win, and this certainly includes Senti. Jason is in fact a poker teacher at the popular poker site bluefirepoker.com . Hey Jason, I bet business is better than ever at BlueFire isn’t it? Hopefully he has a taught a class on shortstack poker play and can put it into work at the Main Event.
