The poker world, both online and offline, can be a pretty entertaining place. There are certainly a number of people that make a living through poker, but who wants to read about someone else grinding out live poker games against the scum of the earth, or to read hand histories of online hands that you have seen a million times?

Ok maybe there are some people that get enjoyment from that, but I’m just not one of them.  Three interesting poker personalities are Jean Robert Bellande, Daniel Negreanu, and David Williams. In this first part of this series I will discuss the infamous Jean Robert Bellande, aka BrokeLivingJRB.

Jean Robert Bellande (called Bobby Bellande by some) is quite the character, and at times can be a pretty good poker player as well.  The entertaining part about Jean Robert isn’t how good he plays poker, but rather how he always seems to entertain.  Jean Robert is almost always shown on television when ESPN is covering an event, as Norman Chad (ESPN’s poker announcer) seems to have some kind of secret fetish for Mr. JRB.  Norman seems to always be criticizing Bellande’s play or his antics, but seems to genuinely like the guy – or rather admires his carefree lifestyle.

JRB also has one of the most entertaining twitter feeds around. You can find the Jean Robert Bellande twitter here.  The title of his twitter BrokeLivingJRB, which is certainly an appropriate one. Bellande seems to go busto quite often, losing bankroll after bankroll. He is backed by different players in cash games and tournaments, and has turned some of those stakes into nice profits for the backers.

Unfortunately for JRB, he seems to always go broke after building up a little bankroll of his own.  His twitter is extremely candid, and he seems to share feelings of elation when winning, and despair when going busto again.  While many poker pros seem to only talk about how much they are winning, Bellande is honest in his tweets and shares his losing stories as well.

He has been around the poker world for many years, and he knows many of the other poker professionals.  They oftentimes post on his twitter page, either wishing him luck or poking fun at him.  The Jean Robert Bellande twitter is a must follow for anyone who likes poker, and he currently has about 14,000 people following his twitter.

Jean Robert has also been on the popular television show The Survivor. Bellande was part of the cast of Survivor:China, and he was ultimately voted out in 8th place, and became the second member of the jury.  If you watched any of this Survivor series then you will certainly remember Jean Robert, as he was as animated as ever during the show. He was constantly scheming and forming different alliances, but ultimately was unable to survive.  He may not have won, but as usual he entertained.

With many bland personalities in the poker world, Jean Robert is certainly a breath of fresh air. He seems to genuinely enjoy playing the game and competing at the highest levels, and it would be difficult to find someone as brutally honest as JRB.
