Entries Increase in WSOP Main Event

Posted July 12 2010
The World Series of Poker Main Event is now in day 3 of the tournament. The 2010 Main Event at the WSOP had 7,319 players to start the tournament, which were split into four days ones. The players were combined into two starting days on day 2, and have now been combined into one day 3. As of this writing there are 1456 people remaining in the Main Event of the 2010 WSOP, and they are likely to play another few hours before calling it a day. 747 players will make the money at this year’s World Series of Poker, with the winner taking down a whopping $8,944,138.
2010 Main Event Entries By Day
- 2010 Day 1A Entrants – 1125
2010 Day 1B Entrants – 1489
2010 Day 1C Entrants – 2313
2010 Day 1D Entrants – 2391
Total 2010 Main Event Entrants – 7319 (the day numbers added up come to 7318, not sure where the discrepancy is)
The 2010 WSOP has been a success when compared to the 2009 World Series, as there have been an increase in entrants in alot of the significant events. I posted an earlier report about the number of entrants being slightly down, but the WSOP seemed to turn the corner over the last couple of weeks.
This turnout for the Main Event was especially important for the World Series, as it is always nice to show an increase over previous years. The 2009 World Series Main Event drew 6,494 entrants, so this year topped it by almost 900 people. In fact, this year’s Main Event is the second largest Main Event ever, trailing only the 8,773 people that entered the Main Event in 2006. Jamie Gold won the bracelet that year, taking home an astounding $12,000,000 for his efforts.
This years Main Event promises to have an excellent finish, as there are still many big name pros that are alive in the field. As of this writing some of the players that are still alive in this 2010 tournament are Barry Greenstein, Erica Schoenberg, and four of the Mizrachi brothers. Yes you read that right, 4 brothers are still alive the field.
The four that entered the 2010 Main Event and are still alive are Robert, Michael, Danny, and Eric. It would be quite a feat if at least 2 or 3 of the brothers were to cash in the tournament, let alone all 4. It would make for a huge story if 2 of them somehow managed to survive until the final table. I don’t remember two brothers ever making it deep in the WSOP Main Event, let alone a pack of brothers. What a boost for poker this could be if the brothers can keep up their unlikely run.
