Number of Entrants for Day 1b of the WSOP
2011: 985
2010: 1489
Players moving on from 2011 Day 1b: 616

As you can see from the above numbers, there was a large dip in sign ups between the 2010 Main Event Day 1b and the 2011 Main Event Day 1b. This has led many to speculate that there will be under 5,000 total entries for the 2011 WSOP Main Event. This speculation appears to be unfounded. The tournament director has already confirmed that there are over 2,000 entrants for Day 1c. This number should swell even further as late registration is still open.

Top Story from Day 1b of the Main Event
The top story of day 1b of the World Series of Poker is the continued run good of Ben Lamb. Lamb has been on fire during the 2011 World Series of Poker, and this carried over to the Main Event. He finished the day with with almost 190,000 in chips, after being down to around 15,000 at one point. Even Mr. RunGood himself, Jason Mercier, tweeted that he wished he could run like benba (Lamb is widely known by this moniker).

As mentioned above Lamb has been extremely successful in the 2011 World Series. Lamb has cashed four times in the 2011 WSOP. He has made three final tables, including taking the bracelet in the $10,000 buy in Pot-Limit Omaha Championship. It will be interesting to see if Lamb can keep up his hot streak during the rest of the Main Event.

Another Day 1b Tidbit
It appears as though the large majority of the name players advanced from Day 1b of the Main Event. This leads me to believe that it will perhaps be deemed the easiest of all the starting days. I’m guessing there were lots of satellite qualifiers that entered Day 1b. I struggled to find a lot of notables that busted out in Day 1b.
